Pretty Woman

Poster for the movie "Pretty Woman"

When it comes to 1990’s chick flicks, Julia Roberts is practically the living embodiment of the rom-com genre. From Steel Magnolias and Nottinghill to Runaway Bride, her body of work is almost universally loved by women, and tolerated by the men in their lives. Yet there is one film in the pantheon of Roberts’ repertoire which all men do secretly love: Pretty Woman. So this week we dive into the 4$ bin and pullout the supposedly modern day version of Cinderella. The story of a woman, Vivian (Julia Roberts) forced into the underground world of prostitution as a way to survive in Los Angeles. She becomes a week long “companion” for an extremely wealthy business man, Edward (Richard Gere). Sadly after spending a week in Beverly Hills luxury and living the life she’d always dreamed of…. she’s forced to return to her sad existence and again sell her body for money. Ok.. that’s not how the movie ends, but we all know it should have.
